The strategic objective of the Joy of Return amongst others include: to serve as a historical and cultural bridge between Mother Africa and the African descents in the Diaspora.
It is reminiscence of the history of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and celebrates the heroism of the black race and their freedom from slavery. It equally seeks to create a global platform for the gradual re-integration of the Africans in the Diaspora back to their ancestral and cultural roots. It is thereby, demonstrating to the world that Nigeria remains a home to the historic African diaspora and engenders robust socio-economic and cultural synergy with Africans in the diaspora.
As against the ugly circumstances surrounding their exit during the dark era of slavery, this event will see returnees and participants welcomed as Royalties by Kings, Chiefs, VIPs, top government representatives, and the people of Badagry. An official welcome speech shall be delivered by the Executive Governor of Lagos State.
The Joy of Return has great tourism potential that if well harnessed, will develop and brand Nigeria as a major international tourist destination in Africa. This noble event is slated to take place later this year in the ancient tourist town of Badagry, Lagos.
